Five Hiking Trails You Must Try this Spring Break

Five Hiking Trails You Must Try this Spring Break

Come for the beach. Stay for the…hiking? It might sound a little strange to hike in Florida, depending on where you’re from, but trust us, trails here offer something different from most areas. More than 20 trails wind through South Walton, and we think these five stand out from the rest.

Deer Lake Trail

6350 East County Highway 30A, WaterSound, FL 32461

This 1.5 miles trail’s a perfect meal hike. Pack a picnic, enjoy the rare foliage and take in the view.

Eastern Lake Trail

1137 County Road 395 South, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459

Bring your best walking shoes for this one. With just over 12 miles to complete the trail, you’ll need them, along with plenty of water and sunscreen. But, it’s worth it for the incredible view of Eastern Lake.

Flatwoods Trail

357 Main Park Road, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

At just under four miles, this trail features pine flatwoods and small, freshwater ponds, which creates a perfect habitat for a variety of birds native to Florida.

Western Lake Loop

357 Main Park Road, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

If you’re looking for something a little shorter, this under-a-mile trail is for you. It’ll loop you through the dune ecosystem, the salt marsh and the famous Grayton Beach State Park pine flatwoods.

Morris Lake Nature Trail

7525 West Scenic Highway 30A, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459

This 2.5 mile trail curves through a former WWII missile development site. Through the bald cypress swamps and massive sand dunes, you’ll see remnants of iron tracks and abandoned vehicles from the program.

Each trail offers something different. So, try one that suits you best, or try them all. You won’t be disappointed.

Five Best Places to Bring Children in South Walton this Spring

Five Best Places to Bring Children in South Walton this Spring

It’s tough to travel with an infant, but once you get here, you’ll find that South Walton remains fairly small-child friendly. With very few places to avoid, you should have a wonderful time with your family. Still, here are a few of our favorite places to bring the kids.

The Bay

Taking the kids out to eat can often be an ordeal, but here, it doesn’t have to be. Settled on the bay at the edge of the 331 bridge is the Bay restaurant. You’ll find the children’s menu has a great variety, sure to satisfy even the pickiest eater. Plus, if you’re sitting on the patio and the kids can’t seem to stay in their chairs, there’s a section of beach that they can play on while you finish your dinner.

The Hub

With multiple places to grab a bite to eat and a giant lawn to run around on, this is a great spot to bring the kids. It hosts family movie nights, concerts and other events, too, so check before you head that way to see if there’s some extra fun in store for you.

Gulf Place

Another spot with a large green area perfect for burning off some energy, Gulf Place has dining, shopping and events with your family in mind. Stop by Pizza by the Sea for an easy meal then stroll along the art walk or stop in some of the great stores.

Seaside

Lined with food trucks and nestled beside the beach, Seaside could easily be an all-day adventure for you and your family. Hit the beach, or lounge on the green in the city center. Shop, or grab a bite to eat. There’s something for everyone there.

The Village of Baytowne Wharf

While you’ll have to go through a gate to get there, it’s worth the trip. Family-friendly restaurants (like Hartell’s), child-inspired entertainment (like the playground and Blast Arcade) and special events designed with families in mind make this a perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening together.

Again, it’s not too hard to find places made for spending time as a family in South Walton, but hit these spots and you’re sure to have a great time.

YOLO Board and Vacayzen Announce New Partnership

Santa Rosa Beach, Florida — January 22, 2016 — Two local companies — YOLO Board and Vacayzen– announced a new partnership in rental services. Both companies started in Walton County and service a large area of Northwest Florida.

Jeff Archer created YOLO Board in 2006, armed with the motto “You Only Live Once” and a deep passion for sharing the emerging sport of standup paddling with the community. Jacob Watkins and Phillip Poundstone founded Vacayzen in 2012 with the mission to help families create the best vacation experience possible.

“We bought our first rental paddleboards from Jeff when we started our business in 2012”, said Watkins. “We are so excited to partner with him as he shares the same high standards in customer service that are imperative for success.”

“We have always aligned ourselves with the best in the business and Vacayzen certainly qualified in this arena,” said Archer. “We considered offering rental deliveries in-house, but with our company moving into many other ventures, we felt that we should hand it over to the experts.”

The two companies have joined forces for paddleboard and bike delivery in Walton and Okaloosa County. They are also in the process of producing a custom line of Vacayzen YOLO bikes, which will roll-out in the spring of 2016.  Rental opportunities are available on both company’s websites.

“YOLO Board has always strived to create memorable experiences for people,” Archer said. “This partnership will allow that to happen on a bigger scale in this community.  Together YOLO board and Vacayzen are going to be able to provide our customers with the highest quality product and service at the best value and this translates into the kind of YOLO experience we want every customer and visitor to enjoy.”

ABOUT YOLO BOARD

“YOLO Board didn’t invent standup paddling or its boards… but its savvy, marketing-driven approach has, despite the sport’s West Coast roots, made the Santa Rosa Beach, FL-based company an industry leader,” said Entrepreneur magazine. YOLO Board, LLC, is a leading designer, marketer and distributor of standup paddleboards, paddles, equipment, lifestyle apparel and accessories. Since 2007, the community-minded brand (aptly named for the lifestyle mantra “You Only Live Once”) has been committed to manufacturing a variety of quality boards suited to fit any paddler, from the recreational novice to the elite pro racer. In 2014, the company expanded its growing YOLO-inspired lifestyle product line with the debut of YOLO Paddles and YOLO Bike Co. Board and bike rentals, lessons, corporate and team building packages and seasonal community race events are available through YOLO Board Adventures Sandestin and YOLO Board + Beach – the company’s flagship store in Miramar Beach featuring the unique ‘try before you buy’ lake experience. Additional retail and rental locations include YOLO Board + Bike at Gulf Place Town Center on Scenic Highway 30A, YOLO Board West Coast in San Diego, California, and a growing number of distributors nationwide.
